Easy DIY Cupcake Toppers

Writer: Jessica HambyJessica Hamby

Did you know it's easy to make your own cupcake toppers with just stamps and fondant? If you can do toddler play-doh time, you can do this. Amazon is filled with cookie cutter stamps. Here's a curated list of some good ones! The key is to look for ones that have a plunger or some way to remove the fondant from the mold.

So, no matter your child's chosen party theme - in my child's case it was Pokémon - there's a stamp for that. Buy white fondant, cut and stamp it, spray on or shake on some edible gold and you're good to go!

I didn't even use a rolling pin or fondant roller. I watched a TV show and flattened little discs by hand then stamped. The stamp does all the work.

I used store-bought strawberry cake mix then added my go-to vanilla buttercream frosting.

Perfect Vanilla Frosting Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 3 sticks unsalted butter, softened

  • small pinch of sea salt

  • 1.5 lbs (24oz) powdered sugar

  • 1 TBSP vanilla extract

  • 3 TBSP cream or milk

Directions

  1. Beat butter on medium-high speed for 6 minutes.

  2. Set to low speed and add salt, powdered sugar, and milk until incorporated.

  3. Turn mixer back up to medium-high speed and beat an additional 6 minutes.

So, basically...

Bake cupcakes, make frosting, pipe frosting, stamp some fondant, shake on some glitter.... It's that's easy to make your child and their friends smile (and save yourself a ton of money ordering from a bakery!).
